How did the trade unions of the city on the Neva live and operate during the Siege?

January 27 is the Day of the Complete Liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Siege. The trade unions' contribution to the victory in Leningrad is immense and undeniable. Throughout the 900 days and nights of the siege, the Leningrad trade unions did everything in their power to survive and win, to support the residents of the besieged but unconquered city. They formed the People's Militia, controlled the distribution of food for factory canteens, compiled lists of those in need, helped those who were no longer able to move, provided training for women and teenagers who took over from men at the machines, helped women enroll their young children in nurseries and kindergartens, organized New Year's parties for the children of Leningrad who remained in the city, and much more.
